Reports continue to come out of Haiti after an estimated 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the country, with the epicenter located just 10 miles from the capital, Port-au-Prince. The death toll estimate has been placed at over 100,000 with some speculating it may be as high as 500,000. An estimated 3 million people will have been effected by the earthquake.
Haiti is one the poorest and most densely-populated countries in the Western Hemisphere. Currently 54% of the population living in Haiti lives on less than $1 a day. [ref.] The Love Alliance community supports two children in Haiti. Their names are Djemson and Ketnise. We support them through a partner organization, Compassion International, who does extraordinary work in the country.
