The Love Alliance Newsletter #24
June 5, 2009

Well summer is in full effect and we are excited for another month of social change.  We are glad you can be a part of making a difference with us and hope that you will get more connected this month.

LAST MONTH

HAPPENINGS

Thank you to everyone who was interested in interning with us on tour with us this summer.  We wish we could take out everyone who applied but unfortunately we can only take two interns with us this year.  We are very excited that Candice Gordon and Krissee Danger will be coming with us on the road this year.  Candice is our TLA Wilkes Barre, PA group leader and has been involved with TLA since the beginning.  Last summer she helped us at a couple festivals and we are excited she will be with us for the first month of this year’s tour.  Krissee currently lives in Philadelphia, PA and has also been a long time supporter of TLA.  She is super passionate about the issues we represent and is excited to get out on the road with us this summer.

Unless you were under a rock last month then you are aware of the fact that The Love Alliance competed for $10,000 last month on ideablob.com to go towards building a curriculum on social justice.  Thank you all for your extremely hard work and votes. We are proud of The Love Alliance community for rallying around us and win or lose consider last month’s contest a success.  While ideablob has not announced an official winner, unofficially we know that we did not win.  From our tally we only lost by a handful of votes.  Many of you have asked if we can submit to be in another month’s contest for $10K.  We can.  But we cannot do it without all of your support.  We will need all of you working to get as many votes as possible for us; especially in the finals.  Reply back to this newsletter if you think we should go for the contest one more time and if you are committed to helping us get votes.

Last month we had a great response from all of you who were interested in being satellite interns with us this summer.  18 satellite interns will be working hard this whole summer from their homes doing various projects to help The Love Alliance.  We have listed all of our wonderful satellite interns in the contact section of our website.  They have already hit the ground running.   Last month they helped a ton with the ideablob contest.  The satellite interns will be doing projects throughout the summer.  It is not too late to join on as a satellite intern.  If you are interested in interning from home with us this summer email info@thelovealliance.net.

Last month The Love Alliance was lucky to receive some great press.  USA Today spotlighted us as one of their photos within their Sharing Photo Gallery.  Florida Today also did a fantastic article on The Love Alliance.  Click here to read the article.  We are excited for The Love Alliance to get more and more national attention because ultimately more and more people will have the opportunity to get connected with making a difference towards the social justice issues we represent.

ACTION

Last month The Love Alliance community supported local food banks.  We have heard time and time again reports of food banks being so thankful for anything TLA members could give.  The need is so great right now for resources, we are thankful that we all could be a part of helping meet that need. To check out pictures of groups helping around the country or to upload your own pictures visit our You in Action section.

THIS MONTH

HAPPENINGS

The Love Alliance turns two years old on June 7th!  We are so thankful to all of you who have joined us these past two years in making a difference towards social injustice.  Our commitment is to keep this organization running as long as it physically can and so long as injustice still exists in the world.  Our long term hope is that we can render ourselves obsolete to no longer be a necessity.  We are excited to venture into our third year and are hopeful that our impact towards social injustice will continue to increase.

We are leaving for tour in just four days on June 9th.  Last summer’s tour gave us the opportunity to reach hundreds of thousands of people.  Many of our TLA groups were formed out of connections we made at these festivals.  We are confident that this summer’s tour will be a great success in educating the general public and getting them connected to making a difference towards social injustice. If you are attending any of these large festivals we would love your help.  Here is a list of all of the festivals we will be at, message us back if you will be at any of them and would like to help with The Love Alliance:

June 10-13: Ichthus Festival – Wilmore, KY
June 17-20: Alive Festival – Canal Fulton, OH
June 24-27: Creation Festival – Mt. Union, PA
June 29-July 4: Cornerstone Festival – Bushnell, IL
    July 2: Cornerstone Festival - Speaking @ Impromptu Stage - 6:00pm
July 8-12: Lifest – Oshkosh, WI
July 24: Vans Warped Tour – Orlando, FL
July 25: Vans Warped Tour – Miami, FL
July 26: Vans Warped Tour - St. Petersburg, FL
    July 29-August 1: SoulFest – Gilford, NH
August 2-5: Kingdom Bound – Darien Lake, NY
August 14-15: Purple Door – Lewisberry, PA

We are excited for some new tour exclusive items that we will have out with us on the road.  We will have new Remember The Homeless Flyer cards, a new t-shirt, new buttons, TLA logo sunglasses, and free stickers at the booth.  Be sure to stop by to say hello and get some free stickers while you’re there.

We will be keeping you up to do date on our tour with blogs, pictures and video.  Be sure to check our website frequently to stay up to date and/or subscribe to our rss feed to get updates.

ACTION PROJECT

Our project will be in recognition of TLA’s 2nd birthday this month.  We encourage everyone to hold community parties through out the month.  The parties will be to celebrate two successful years of The Love Alliance and to educate the community on what we do.

This is a great opportunity to get your friends and family involved with making a difference towards social injustice. We’re taking this month to broaden our base.  As we inform more and more people on the issues we represent and their ability to impact them in their every day life we are exponentially growing our ability to make a difference towards community and international needs.  So have a good time, it’s for the good of your community.

Be sure to upload pictures and video of your party to the You in Action section of the website.
