The Love Alliance Newsletter #33
March 4, 2010
This month is Women’s History Month and March 8th is International Women’s Day. Lets honor the women of our community this month. Check out this month’s Action Project to find out how.
LAST MONTH - HAPPENINGS
We had several events happening around the country this past month. David Ranzino
spoke at the Isaiah 61 Conference in Boca Raton, FL. The conference
focused on the clean water epidemic and money was raised to help ship a
well drilling machine to Malawi. We were able to meet some fantastic
people who had some
great ideas on how to raise awareness and funds for the clean water
epidemic as well as other social justice issues. Thanks to Hade Smith
for traveling down to the event and helping run the booth.
Unfortunately due
to bad weather we had to miss the Pennsylvania Christian Teen
Convention this past weekend but we are hoping to make it to the event
next year.
We had several
benefit concerts happen this past month as well. Asher Plock in
Evansville, IN, put on a benefit concert for The Love Alliance and
raised over $200. Our TLA Louisville, KY Group put on a benefit
concert to raise money for Clean Water in Haiti through
WaterMissions.org. They too were able to raise almost $200. Putting
on a benefit concert is a great way to get involved with The Love
Alliance and make a difference. If you are interested in putting one
on in your hometown, please email info@thelovealliance.net
We also had a lot of
love being shown in February. Our TLA Wilkes Barre, PA Group visited
their local women's shelter and did manicures and pedicures for the
women there. Click here to see pictures. Red Eye: NYC also partnered up with Reveal for their annual Valentine’s Day Makeover where NYC professionals from
the fashion industry came together to give makeovers to women who are
recovering from abuse and sexual exploitation. It is amazing to see
how much healing can come by celebrating beauty in these women.
LAST MONTH - ACTION PROJECT
Last month we focused on continuing to Help Haiti. We
held and still hold the belief that as worldwide interest fades, we
must not forget about the great amount of needs that Haiti has. We posted ways that people could help daily on our Website, Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace and asked that people pick one thing to do in order to Help Haiti. These ways are still listed in the "Help Haiti: Ways You Can Help." Please visit the blog if you haven’t yet and/or comment on the blog if you have any other ways to Help Haiti. Our "Help Haiti: List of Organizations Helping Haiti" blog is still up as well.
We had a great response to this month’s project. As we already mentioned, our TLA Lousiville, KY Group put on a benefit concert to raise money for Clean Water in Haiti. Our TLA Triangle Area, NC Group put together Hygiene Kits through Convoy of Hope. Not to mention the countless stories from individuals that we heard. Again we encourage you to visit our blogs, there is still so much that can be done. blog on our website.
THIS MONTH - HAPPENINGS
We have recently
had a lot of individuals apply to start groups. This month we will be
focusing more on these new groups as well as our existing groups. Our
long-term intern, Candice Gordon, has recently taken a new staff role
as our Groups Coordinator. Not only has Candice been an unbelievable
help throughout the life of this organization but she has also led one
of our organizations most active groups in Wilkes Barre, PA. Joelle
Austin has also jumped on board to support our groups as the Assistant
Groups Coordinator. We are so grateful for their commitment to this
organization and our groups. They will be our group leaders’ key point
person; will answer questions; and will help our groups grow and become
more established. If you would like to join a group in your area, you
can check out a list of our current groups here. If you would like to start a group, you can fill out an application here.
Speaking of Candice Gordon, she will be traveling to Haiti on March 22nd to help with relief work from the earthquake. Her trip will be from
March 22 to April 5 and she will be traveling with Youth With A Mission
(YWAM) based out of Coatesville, PA. We are so proud of her that she
has seen great need and is responding to it with action. You can help
support her trip financially and get more information about her trip by clicking here.
THIS MONTH - ACTION PROJECT
March is both Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (3/8). This month is the perfect time for us to honor the women of our community. Our T.L.A. Wilkes Barre, PA group had a fantastic idea to go to their local women’s shelter and do manicures/pedicures for the women. We encourage everyone to run with this idea. Shower your love on the women of your community who have been worn out by life. Go to your local florist and see if they would like to donate flowers to the women or gather beauty products and create beauty baskets for the women.
If you do not have a local women’s shelter then we encourage you to find a lonely elderly woman in your community and help meet some of her needs while listening to her stories. See if she needs something fixed in her house, if not, spend a meal with her. Sometimes our presence is the most loving gift we could ever give.
There are so many things that you can do. Be creative and make a difference.
