The
Love Alliance Newsletter #16
www.thelovealliance.net
October 1, 2008
It is October already and we have some fun things to announce
this month. September seemed to fly by as we said goodbye to
summer and hello to fall. We trust everyone had a fantastic
month and hope you are ready to jump into this next month of
impacting your communities and the world with us. |
| LAST
MONTH |
| HAPPENINGS |
The
most exciting thing that happened last month was the launch
of our new group exclusive social networking site. This
is a centralized place where all of our group members can
unite in order to become more effective in making a difference
towards social injustice. Our group members can make profiles,
chat with each other, blog about their experience, discuss
topics on the group forum, and receive our monthly Action
Projects much earlier than anyone else in order to aid in
planning. We are committed to helping our groups become
more effective in their fight against social injustice and
we believe this is just one way we can aid them in their
fight. Our groups work in their communities, schools and
churches to do our monthly Action Projects. They also work
to educate themselves and their community about social injustice
and meet some of their own communities needs. If you are
currently part of one of our groups ask your group leader
for a network invite so you can get on it ASAP. If you are
interested in finding out if there is a Love Alliance group
in your area or would like to start one if there isn't,
email Groups@thelovealliance.net.
We set up a booth at The Real Big Deal Festival in Gainesville,
FL, last month. Not only were we able to see some fantastic
bands such as Straylight Run, Mae and Band Marino; but we
were also able to connect with some great people who are
passionate about making a difference in this world. We are
now happy to announce that we have a TLA University of Florida
group in full swing. If you joined The Love Alliance at
the festival last month and are interested in joining this
UF group email us at Groups@thelovealliance.net
and we will get you in contact with our new group leaders.
At the
end of our summer tour we promised that we would continue
to post video blogs from our tour. We are determined to
keep our promise and have been video editing machines lately.
We posted 3 tour video blogs last month from Ohio, Creation
Festival and Cornerstone Festival. Stay updated on our new
video posts by subscribing to our youtube channel. To watch
the new video blogs click

| ACTION
PROJECT |
Last
month’s Action Project was our 2nd annual Fall Cleaning.
We encouraged all of you to go through your piled up stuff and
give away anything you no longer wear, use or want to those
who so desperately need it. It was neat to see individuals not
only do this on their own but getting their friends and family
to join them as well. We saw whole churches commit to join in
this project. This is such a great example of our hope for these
Action Projects, that your passion for people would be infectious
to the people and the community around you.
If you participated in last month's action project, email us
and tell us about it.

| THIS
MONTH |
| HAPPENINGS |
We
are happy to announce some new dates on our calendar.
This month we will once again be hitting the road with
our good friend Bradley Hathaway for his solo tour. We
will have a booth set up at all of his Florida dates.
We are expecting these shows to be a lot more intimate
than the last tour we joined him on. We are excited to
interact with everyone in this way and are pumped to take
our purpose out on the road once again. We will also be
attending Journey Fest in Brooksville, FL, at the end
of this month. We have a big heart for the New Port Richey
area and are excited to be heading in that direction this
month. If you are planning on attending Journey Fest or
one of the Bradley Hathaway dates and would like to volunteer
at the booth email Action@thelovealliance.net.
Last month we had just added a paypal
badge to our myspace page. This paypal badge allows
each of you to help raise money for The Love Alliance
through your myspace page. This month Paypal and myspace
are hosting a contest. By simply adding the T.L.A. Paypal
widget to your myspace page you can help The Love Alliance
win $2500, and if you get your friends to add the widget
from your page then you have a chance to win some great
prizes. You don't even have to raise money, you just
have to add the widget to your page. Seems simple enough,
so if you have a myspace add our badge to your page.
You can grab the html code from the widget on David's
myspace
profile here, just click on the "add to profile"
link on the widget. Or you can read more on about this
on our myspace
blog.
Now for some exciting news… we
are finally working to launch a new and very improved
website. Our new website will have blogs, new and improved
message boards, a section for you to submit your story
and pictures of you making an impact on social injustice,
information on the projects we help support, a ton more
information on social justice issues and what you can
do to make a difference towards them and much much more.
We should have the new website up and running by the
end of November. We promise it will be worth the wait.

| ACTION
PROJECT |
Now
to announce this month's Action Project. October is Fair Trade
Month. For those of you who do not know what Fair Trade is these
are products that have been bought from non-exploited workers
(i.e. not made by slaves or in sweatshops). Unfortunately many
individuals have no idea that many of the products we buy are
made from exploited workers. If we can create a demand for fair
trade products, we can send a message to the producers that
we will not stand for exploitation of human beings to simply
save a few cents.
With that
said, this month your goal as a group is to 1. Choose one
item you regularly buy this month, find a fair trade alternative,
and purchase that alternative this month (i.e. chocolate,
clothing, coffee etc.). 2. Let us know what fair trade alternative
you found by emailing us at action@thelovealliance.net. We
will be posting this list on our new website. 3. If a store
you normally shop at does not sell fair trade alternatives
it is super important that you request fair trade either directly
through a manager or in their comment box. As we start asking
where things are made we will start changing the social climate
of the society we live in. Not sure how your favorite stores
producers treat their workers? Research it and if you find
out they have negative practices then approach a manager with
your concern or write a letter to their corporate offices.
4. Educate, educate, educate. Educate yourselves and your
community more on these issues. Many people have no idea that
many of the items they buy are made unfairly. Beyond that
they many times have no clue that there are fairly made alternatives.
Lets work to change that this month.
