- An estimated 39.5 Million people in the world live with HIV/AIDS. [ref.]

Unlike most virus’ that attack infants and elderly, HIV is a virus that mainly attacks people in the prime of their life taking parent from their child and spouse from spouse.

- Two thirds of all the people in the world living with HIV live in Sub Saharan Africa [ref.] where 46% of the population lives on less than $1 a day. [ref.]

The poorest of the worlds poor are rapidly dying from a disease that has become treatable. There is still no cure for AIDS, but it is no longer an immediate death sentence. Medical science has improved medical treatment of those living with HIV and made it extremely cost effective.

- The cost of a months supply of generic antiretroviral medicine for an adult living with HIV is down to just under $11 a month. [ref.]

This is by no means an unattainable about for those of us not living in poverty. But for someone living in these impoverish conditions, treatment is impossible. That is unless someone intercedes on their behalf.

- Today over 15 Million children live as orphans because AIDS has killed their parents. [ref.]

We must remember that AIDS deaths do not only effect the individual who’s life was taken by the disease, whole communities and families are effected.

- Since 2004 the number of people living with HIV has increased in every area of the world. Raising the most drastic 21% in East Asia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. [ref.]

Ignorance to how HIV is spread is a large contributor in the spread of this disease.

- Of the 2.3 Million innocent children living with AIDS in the world, 2 Million of these children live in Sub Saharan Africa where they rarely have the medical access they need for survival. [ref.]

These children are dying in some of the worlds worst conditions of a disease that was likely passed on from their parents.

- Worldwide 7 out of 8 people who want an HIV test do not have access to one, making the spread of the disease more likely, as individuals remain ignorant to their condition. [ref.]

With out accessible HIV testing the spread of this disease will remain uncontrollable.

- 80% of people living with HIV in low- and middle-income countries do not know that they are HIV-positive. [ref.]

This is likely due to the inaccessibility of testing and the lack of knowledge of how this disease is caught and spread.
